Worthy Global Charities

We started regular monthly donations to some organizations around forty years ago. Here are some of those:

Greenpeace International

Purpose – Greenpeace stands for positive change through action to defend the natural world and promote peace. We investigate, expose and confront environmental abuse by governments and corporations around the world.

Personal – Our family got to see and tour the Rainbow Warrior in the harbor of Auckland, New Zealand shortly after it was towed there. It had been protesting French nuclear testing in the South Pacific when the French government blew it up and sunk it.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals

Purpose – Since 1980, PETA has been dedicated to defending the rights of all animals. We operate under the simple principle that animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.

Personal – In college at Mankato State University, I organized a field trip to the Hormel Meatpacking Plant in Austin, Minnesota. From a walkway near the ceiling, in horror we watched the whole process of cows being killed and dismembered. Chickens and pigs killed and put on a conveyer that went through boiling water. We have been vegetarians or pescatarians for the rest of our lives.

More Ways to Support PETA

Pachamama Alliance

Purpose – To empower indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest to preserve their lands and culture and, using insights gained from that work, to educate and inspire individuals everywhere to bring forth a thriving, just and sustainable world.

Personal – Charlotte and I were trained to present their symposiums called Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream. We organized several of these. We traveled to the Amazon Rainforest and spent days with the Achuar Tribe there. They are a dream culture. Early every morning they gather and share their dreams. A shaman interprets the dreams and based on that they organize their day. Through this ritual they discovered the threats to their way of life from the mining, oil extraction and timber companies. To protect their way of life, those of us in the north, need to change our dream of how to live. We now keep our education expanding through their Game Changer Intensive on-line courses.

The Climate Reality Project

Purpose – We recruit, train, and mobilize people to become powerful activists, providing the skills, campaigns, and resources to push for aggressive climate action and high-level policies that accelerate a just transition to clean energy.

Personal – Charlotte and I were trained by former Vice President Al Gore to give climate presentations and we did this to more than 30 audiences all over Mississippi. We continue to find ways to advocate for climate protection.

Share International

Purpose – With the founding of Share International, Benjamin Creme aimed to create a group that would help accelerate the evolutionary trajectory of Humanity. For Creme, the true focus of evolution was enhancing human consciousness.

Personal – We have met Benjamin Crème and meditated with him several times as well as attended his lectures in New York, London, Washington D.C. and other places. We practice this service meditation called transmission meditation for more than a dozen hours every week.

The Nature Conservancy

Purpose – The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. Our vision is a world where the diversity of life thrives, and people act to conserve nature for its own sake and its ability to fulfill our needs and enrich our lives.

Personal – For over 50 years we have been protecting 310 acres of forest in rural Missouri. If we ever lose the ability to protect this natural precious environment, The Nature Conservancy has evaluated the property and agreed that it is a unique important ecosystem and they would continue to protect it for us.
